If you’re new to website management and online marketing, you’ll need to start somewhere. There is an obvious overload of information on the internet so we’ve taken the frustration out of the endless search engine aggravation. Take a look at these 7 steps to help start your website off in the right direction.
- Register a URL
It’s time to get creative with names here and find a catchy website address that will best reflect your business and increase visibility on Google. Find a .com or another extension that also best reflects your business. Try and keep it simple and don’t use too many numbers, hyphens, or other characters that may discourage a user from remembering where to find you.
- Buy a Hosting Package and connect it to WordPress
Connect your URL to a host that will provide you with enough space to save all of your website data, emails, and database information. If you’re interested in blogs or managing your own websites content, consider installing WordPress. It’s free and will help save you from learning code to update your website.
- Hire a Web Designer
Preferably Bowe, but we encourage finding the best designer to suit your needs. Doing research first will help your website thrive in the end. As Vaynerchuk says in Crush It “hiring a web designer to make sure you’ve got an excellent user interface in the form of properly placed links and buttons is a worthwhile investment. (pg. 103)” If ‘Content is King’ then function and usability is Queen and a good web designer should know how to marry the two.
- Get Social
Sign up for a Facebook Fan Page, create a Twitter account, get a LinkedIn profile and get social! By now you should know that social media has revolutionized the internet. By connecting with people online you can create a niche for your business and share your products and services with like minded individuals.
- Write Content
Write content for your website, and your social media pages. Be clear, be friendly, and tell your customers what you intend to do with your website. Update your blog frequently to ensure repeat visits to your website and share your knowledge of your business for all to see. The more informed your customers are, the more likely they are to make a purchase from your business.
- Be Social
Share that knowledge! When you update your website, or make a new blog post, be sure to tell your friends online about it. How else will they know? Send out a tweet, post it to Facebook, and update your LinkedIn profile. Your readers will come back to your website more often if they know you are making updates.
- Connect with Others Online
Set aside time in a week or a month to make new friends online. You want to grow your business and share your wealth of knowledge with new people. Search through Facebook and Twitter, and see who your friends are following and then add those people to your social network.
The key to your websites success will be in it’s frequency. Making constant updates to your website will encourage your customers to return to your website. Updating your friends through your social media network will remind them as to how often you are making the updates.
